Huntsville, TX - Home
Huntsville Texas was the home of Sam Houston and his wife Margaret Lea. Here he settled with his family and where many of his children were born.
Washington on the Brazos
Sam Houston was here to sign the Declaration of Independence on his birthday in 1836. The very next month he would lead the Texians to victory at the Battle of San Jacinto.
Independence
Sam Houston lived here near his wife's family while he worked as a U.S. Senator. The family later moved to Austin in 1859 when he was the Governor of Texas and then back to Huntsville. Upon his death, Margaret moved back here to live out her remaining years. Sam was reportedly baptized here and widdled in a prayer bench.
